ALT | FOLK | ROCK | EXISTENTIAL | POP
Hey there Husky,
I've put this page together to curate some music, video and my bio for you to check out.
I love the production on ‘Late night store’. I lived in Berlin for 4 years and it's nice to hear the track was written there and inspired slightly by the ever present spätkauf! Berlin is where I got to meet Henning from Four Artists.
I'm back in Australia now, living in Wally De Backers house and looking after his studio. The vids above were filmed/recorded there roughly as demos of the band material.
After Henning mentioned the possibility of joining your tour I chatted with Wally about it. He said he had fond memories of the shows you guys played together and he felt like my music would fit beautifully with what you are doing.
My band Lamplight toured with Wally through Europe in 2008 and I played as part of his band on vocals and guitar.
I'm guessing you are looking for an artist that can bridge your previous work with the newer release and complement your work without being a clone of you.
I’ve put together a mix of songs here that cover my ‘moody’ ‘intimate’ acoustic songs to more driving alt/pop/rock that I think matches well with the new stuff I have heard.
I'd love to hit the road with you guys through Europe and elsewhere. I love your music and I think my live show would complement and engage your audience.
Enjoy the tunes. There is a fair bit here for you to hear how this could work with your tour. I hope to hear from you soon.
TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT...
Mijo is a singer & songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. Recently back from a songwriting journey to the far north wilderness of Iceland where he wrote, recorded and made film clips for 25 new songs in 23 days. Mijo is currently recording a new album to bring to England and mainland Europe later this year.
Mijo is no slouch, he has performed with triple Grammy Award Winner Gotye, Clare Bowditch, Missy Higgins, Tommy Emmanuel among many other wonderful Australian and international artists.
His live show journeys through diverse moods from the well crafted folk/country gems, to the intimate prose in music and up to enlivening chant anthems, enough to incite epiphanies and perhaps even an authentic singalong.
Although references are made to Buckley, Wainwright, Fleet Foxes and Cohen among others, Mijo continues to eludes pigeon-holes with his distinctive voice in the world of songwriting and emotive vocal delivery.
A FEW VIDEOS...
This was shot and recorded in Iceland recently on a song writing trip. It's demo-ey but nice. I was on my own for 23 days. No internet, no phone, no TV, no one to talk to. Just digging deep to write good songs, climb mountains and make vids.
Song: Two worlds into one
This was shot and recorded in Wally's studio in Australia and shows a bit more of a pop/rock edge with a band.
Song: You've got your life
This was shot and recorded in the house in Iceland.
Song: Valley of wild
WORD ON THE STREET...
"I've been a fan of Mijo Biscan's music for over 10 years, since seeing his remarkable album launch in 2005. I got to know Mijo better over the last few years by sharing some time together during a GOTYE tour around Europe. We get along very well and share a strong musical connection."
"Mijo is a very talented song-writer. Mijo's best work and his widening reputation are still ahead of him."
- CLARE BOWDITCH
"Lots of rustic Augie March influence in this brew. Which is good, because I like Augie March a lot.”
- Richard Kingsmill, Triple J
“Moody, heartbreaking, stunning, fucking epic.”
– Beat Magazine
“Fantastic haunting pop. There are Buckley-esque tones to the vocals - perfect for the soaring melodies. Lovely warm, acoustic instrumentation. Defo one for fans of Augie March, Mum, Beirut etc.”
- Dan Buhagiar, Triple J
“Lamplight (Mijo's band) and a sold-out Northcote Social Club traveled an intense nautically themed journey that was part sea-shanty, part thrash, part croon, and completely fucking breathtaking. The night saw an aggressive and vivid live beast unleashed after many months of recording.”
